Good morning Mike and Lisa. This was me having a bit of fun yesterday. I had spent a couple of hours on my riding mower mulching up the billions of leaves covering the grass areas and was thinking how enjoyable it was in 60+f temperature while some of you poor folk have snow and ice already. The 'fun' was that these quick snapshots lie! Apart from two rose bushes that still have plenty of blooms and the couple of clumps of crysanthemums all the other shots are of almost solitary flowers peeping up through a carpet of fallen leaves and even through cracks in the concrete paths. No "riot of color" here but just the last gasp of Fall before winter arrives. I don't even know the names of some of those tiny flowers but I did want to show you folk that inspite of my occasional grouching about galleries on BP being filled with close-ups of flowers I am really just an old softy and love wandering around our acre of chaotic trees and plants. As I have probably mentioned previously, being married to an artist
fits well with my own disorganized life-style and there are no neat rows of tulips in this man's yard, just random plantings and clumps of color that come and go with the seasons. This is why I love this part of the central mid-west; we have four distinct seasons even if there is an occasional weird year like 2012 that gave us record breaking temps in Feb and as Elizabeth and I took an evening stroll downtown last night there were buds already formed on some trees outside city hall.
The image I posted was kind of thrown together and is not for photographic critique but as I said, 'just for fun' and if it makes anyone envious then think of it as my revenge for all you fine folk who show me all the wonderful places I probably shall never get to visit. :0)

Well it looks like eternal summer based on the collage you have provides us! :~) All the flowers have gone here, but this weekend we are having nice weather...no snow yet. I just knew you were a softy! lol

Does look like a lot of fun. My fun will be tomorrow watching out my kitchen window (which will be open, even if the temperatures are in the the 50's) to see if I can catch a Flicker myself again this year. #10413515

Nice Peter. In some ways I miss the 4 distinct seasons of the mid-west. But I do not miss the bugs and heat in the summer and the biting cold in the winter.

We've started getting gold weather her. The leaves have turned and are starting to fall. Soon the rain will start and not stop again until June. :) #10413667

Peter - A nice tribute to the last gasp of fall as you called it. A great title for the image as well. We finally had a cold snap and that pretty much puts an end to the remaining leaves and such. Had frost this morning so all the rooftops were white but no snow yet. Mid-week should be in the 50's again. Went wobbling outside to get the last of the crabapple leaves. By tomorrow, there won't be any left. #10414228

Peter, thank you very much for posting this last gasp of fall!! They really made me smile! Most of our 4 foot of snow is melting and I have Electric!!!!! These are all really pretty and it is awesome you still have some color left. I am waiting to see if all my lilac bushes will ever straighten up again. I took all the snow off of them yesterday, they were so bent over, just like the little old people with the bad bones and crooked spines. #10415733
