The Historic Cataract Covered Bridge Description: 5-image HDR f/22, ISO 100, Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8 @ 24mm. The covered bridge at Cataract Falls (Cloverdale,IN) originally constructed in 1876 to span Mill Creek, was removed from its resting spot across the creek a couple of years ago. This fragile, 140-foot historic treasure needed some major restoration, due to years of rot and termite damage. In addition, there was work to do around the bridge; restoring the abutments, wing walls and approach embankments and placing rip-rap on the slopes. The Department of Natural Resources played a significant role in the historical preservation and restoration of the Cataract Covered Bridge. In spring 2005, DNR staff were able to list the Cataract Covered Bridge on the National Register of Historic Places. Do you remember the famous Anheuser-Busch beer commercial with the Clydesdale horses pulling a wagon through the bridge? It was THIS bridge!
