Description

One of the charming homes in the small, picturesque, former fishing village of Arnarstapi, in the northwest of Iceland.
The Atlantic ocean was about 40 yards behind me when making this exposure.

VERY charming, indeed! I can see children playing there and enjoying the little hill near the front door with their rag dolls and toy airplanes. They kept it simple maybe because of the harsh winters? Here where I live (50 miles east of the Canadian Rockies), we get terrible cold winds and people grow trees galore to protect us from it. It always makes me wonder how chilly homes like this get when and if the wind goes through those boards. I'm happy to see a chimney in the heart of it!!! :D

Great find!

Thank you both!
Laura, there are VERY few trees remaining in Iceland - a serious problem, actually, regarding soil erosion. What trees remain generally are scrubby birches. The NW part of the country is much more temperate however, than the rest---the best weather of the entire trip was in this region! #10388441
