Description

Niagara is now home to a thriving winery industry. Ice wine is the prize wine of the region, and Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer, Gamay and Pinot Noir varieties are the popular varieties being grown.

With the grafting of premium vinifera and European varieties onto hardy North American root stock, the industry has soared over the last 20 years. The soil and microclimate of the Niagara Escarpment is distinctive and varies sufficiently to produce wines that are distinctive between areas of the NIagara escarpment. There are now hundreds of wineries in the region.

(Gord might consider the call of the Bruce Trail and hike his way down this World Biosphere Site. He'll find one of the mildest climates in Ontario, along with a sophisticated culinary scene beside boutique wineries).

Beautiful capture and processing Marilyn, great info also!!
I love the Niagara region, we like to get down that way every so often, and it is always a treat. My daughter went to Brock U and it was always nice going down that way to see her. End of Feb up here was the dead of winter and down there you would see the first stirrings of spring. #10368197
