Ice Hike

Uploaded: September 25, 2012 03:48:59

Description

A group of hikers navigating the crevasses of Svínafellsjökull, a glacier tongue in the Skaftafell region of southern Iceland. We were on
a similar hike, having reached our midway point before returning, when I spotted the earlier group descending ahead of us.

Having the tiny people in the image really gives you a perspective to how massive this piece of ice is. Wonderful capture, Chris. #10339951

Very cool - love the sense of scale the people give us. Guess all that dirt makes for better traction? #10340276

Thanks, folks!
Nikki, I don't know that the dirt helped all that much---but we did have to wear crampons on our boots, which definitely made a huge difference. (We also carried an ice axe, and had wear a harness and hardhat.) #10341966
