I have no idea what I am looking at Jeff but in the thumbnail it reminded me of those strange plankton creatures that are sometimes photographed thousands of feet down in the oceans.Kristin Duff September 22, 2012
ok Jeff, I would really like to know how you get such symetrical circles when you light paint! #10333559Beth Spencer September 22, 2012
Jeff this is really cool!! Just wondering did you edit the reflection in. I had Rocky do a few of these and I took some pictures at the beach. I have to ask some questions later about doing this. #10333562Jeff E Jensen September 22, 2012
Thanks, all! This is a little light painting I did last night with some friends out just off the road to Stansburry Island (There you go, Pete, you can Google it). The reflections are part of the shot, not added afterwards. The Great Salt Lake is not deep, only about 30' at the deepest. Along most of the shore lines, you can walk out for a very long bit before you get your knees wet. I was out 40-50 feet for these and was only about ankle deep. By the way, this is a composite. The spin on the right was cut short by a dip in the water (steel wool doesn't burn so well when it's wet) #10333594

One of my favs Jeff and I think Peter's description fit it to a T. #10333670Peter W. Marks September 23, 2012
Stanbury Island UT. I really am grateful for info like this Jeff. Thanks to you I have now GoogleEarthed it, as well as plain googled it and here I am at 6am on a Sunday morning with my aging braincells (what's left of them} fully reactivated. Some older folks worry about the 'Big C', but for myself,at 74, having had colon cancer twice back in '97 and '98 I am much more concerned over dementia or alzheimer and once in a while fret over little things like where I parked the truck in the grocery parking lot. So, one of my strategies to keep those brain cells working is to have a deep curiosity over even the most insignificant bits of trivia which might be characterized by my "Who, what, why, when, where and wow!" philosophy to life. So thanks again Jeff; now I have roamed around the lake, climbed the peaks and marvelled that those early pioneers would even consider settling in a place like this. #10333834Aimee C. I love how crisp all the light lines are in this and the reflection is great! I bet that location is a great place to play for so many photo experiments. I'm not sure I am understanding the composition on this. It doesn't seem solid and the negative space on the right isn't adding anything in my eyes. Could you see about a different one and let us see? :~) #10334371Debbie E. Payne September 23, 2012
Very cool, Jeff. You could even turn it 90 degrees and crop close for a portrait look of something that could also come out of one of Peter's planets. #10334424Jeff E Jensen September 23, 2012
Good suggestion, ladies. How's this? #10334428Aimee C. Eisaman September 23, 2012
Oooo...very powerful now!!! I really like this take on it! :~) #10334472Jeff E Jensen September 23, 2012

You're making good progress at expanding your repertoire there, Jeff. I like the vertical. Looks like something that could be painted on black velvet and and hung somewhere. #10334726Rita K. Connell September 24, 2012
I was just looking at all these on your web site. they are so cool. its amazing croping and turning made this a really stong image. Boy is stephen on to something...with this being put on black velvet and hung on the wall. I really like your last post also.this is goign in my favorites #10335292

Thanks, everyone! I have not gotten out nearly enough this summer. I've got one more epic trip scheduled in a couple of weeks. It'll be an all-nighter that it wll involve light painting, time lapse and stars way out in the desert west of the lake. Should be a fun trip. #10335293Elaine Hessler September 24, 2012
Can't wait to see what you get. I like the second post the best. #10338667Aimee C. Eisaman September 25, 2012
Oooo the deep sea creature is cool too! :~) #10339874Michael Kelly September 25, 2012
These are very good Jeff. Debbie stole my suggestion, but then I got to see it right away and I like it a lot. A couple of your finest in my opinion. #10340948Jeff E Jensen September 25, 2012
Thanks, everyone! #10341326lisa anderson September 26, 2012
I love all of these shots; they're beautiful as abstracts and when they look like creatures of the deep. It also just sounds fun to go out into a lake at night to take pictures. #10342656Sign up for an interactive online photography course to get critiques on your photos.
