Description

The Mauna Kea Resort on the Big Island is home to a colony of feral cats - each marked with the classic missing ear tip for identification. Most are very shy, but a few venture around Mantas restaraunt for nightly treats. I always saved some fish for them and went out after dark to leave some around the bushes where they would be hiding.

An adorable kitty, even with the ear tip gone..Why would they do that, I wonder...I mean who cares how many cats you have? lOL #1479509

Thanks Carolyn. They clip the ear to identify a feral as one who has been trapped, seen by a vet, and altered so that it can't breed. (Trap, nueter, release.) #10269368

Awww, Cindy - I agree with Carolyn...what an adorable kitty!! Isn't it sad, though, that ones like this cutie are released to the streets again...and that no-one can give them a home!! :-( All they need is for someone to love them!! :-) #10277843

Thank you Carolyn. Unfortunately, most ferals are just that: feral - and because they haven't been socialized, cannot be adopted or kept as pets. When kittens are found and captured they are usually placed for adoption. I agree, its not an ideal lifestyle, but its better than rounding them up and euthanizing them. #10278858

How interesting to read this thread about what they do for them. I agree. It's better than putting them down. Most kitties love the outdoors so why not, if enough scraps and mice and bugs can keep them hunting and living?

This one looks healthy and happy...but maybe because of you! xo ><> (That is a fish)... :D
