Endre,
I appreciate the chance to see an image of a work of art that very few of us get to see. As well, it is a magnificent image, and it makes me feel as though I could touch the wood and feel the contours and warmth.
Do you play it?
Thanks, Jim #2109717

Thanks to all of you for your kind comments. I'm so glad that you find this photo so evocative. I guess I agree because I use it as my little thumbnail photo for my postings and web gallery.
Yes, I perform on it regularly and have it in my hands almost every day. It is a tremendous instrument both visually and tonally. I would put it up against any great Strad in the world. It was made in 1728 when Stradivarius was in his early 80's (he lived to be 92 and made instruments up to the end) and, although it may not be quite as perfectly detailed as his "Golden Period" instruments (we're splitting hairs here), it has a "Late Period" tonal robustness that isn't found earlier. This one is in particularly fine shape and if you look closely at the photo you can still see a remnant of the black outlining that he painted onto his scrolls to enhance their perfect curvature. That is very rare to find nowadays. With Thanksgiving coming tomorrow, I am particlularly reminded of how blessed and priveleged I am to be its caretaker while I own it. That I can take pretty photos of it whie it is in my charge doubles that blessing.
Anyway, I hope all that is interesting. Thanks again for your comments. Happy Thanksgiving to you all!
