This is my cup of tea, Dennis. You took a calculated risk with the timer as the bird kingdom cannot be relied upon to stand still for very long. I'm curious why you used the timer. You can probably teach me something about capturing an elusive Great Blue. The only thing that would have made this better is if you had gotten in the shot. Nice work. #1476547Dennis Gay July 23, 2012
Strewth SUDSAN!Welcome to Hat Head at low tide.
Maaaaany thanks indeedy for your feedback and the NW Award.
The camera was already on the tripod with the timer set from a previous ahot and I didn't want to miss this shot so I just plonked the tripod down, lined it all up and at 1/1000sec was pretty confident in freezing any movement.

Oh, but of course! I skimmed over the 1/1000 and so must pay the consequences. Great capture, Dennis. #10242032Dennis Gay July 23, 2012

I like how tranquil this image feels. The movement of the water and the light changing draws me in. The size of the Pelican is emphazied by those gulls. The b/g is interesting to explore and then sends my eye right back to the Pelican and its mates. Lovely. #10242420Arthur Bohlmann July 24, 2012
