Uploaded: June 22, 2012

Description

Stromboli Volcano on 06/03/2012 at approximately 3 am. Stromboli is a small island north of Sicily and the volcano is one of the most active in the world. It explodes and throws lava from several vents on its summit at intervals of about 20 to 30 minutes. It has been active for at least 2000 years. Aperture: F5.6, Lens: 80-400mm @ 400mm, Shutter: 1/5, ISO: 3200, Time of Day: 3:00 am. This is an as shot unmodified photograph taken from a ship approximately 1/3 mile off shore of the island. I knew there was a good reason that I lugged my heavy 80-400mm lens to Italy. An incredible show of nature’s force!

Exif: F Number: 5.6, Exposure Bias Value: -0.33, ExposureTime: 10/50 seconds, Flash: did not fire., ISO: 3200, White balance: Auto white balance, FocalLength: 400.00 mm, Model: NIKON D300S

This is Nat Geo for me. Simply amazing that you were able to get this beautiful but deadly capture of nature letting lose. The colors are gorgeous and show the intensity of the heat. Your timing was perfect as you got it when it was belching up the lava. Spectacular my friend.
You have such a beautiful gallery. It was a joy to page through it and see you remarkable talent in each picture. #10198784
