"American White Pelican"
Uploaded: May 04, 2012
The American White Pelican is a very large bird; its overall length is about 50-67 inches. It has a wingspan of about 95-120 inches making it the second largest wingspan of any North American bird after the California Condor.
The bill is about 14 inches long, in breeding season there is a laterally flattened "horn" on the upper bill. This is the only species of pelican to have a bill "horn" which they shed after they have mated and laid their eggs.
