Remains of the Sujameco

Description

We lived in North Bend (50 miles north of Port Orford) for 10 years, from 1987 to 1997, after we first moved to Oregon. I would often go to nearby Horsfal Beach on my birthday… just to be by the sea on that particular day. And the skeletal remnants of the steamship Sujameco were often exposed there. As it turned out, Feb 28 was the anniversary of it beaching there, back in 1929. Often times it would have been covered with sand a few days before, and would often be covered back up a few days later. And it spent most of its time covered with sand, exposed only after winter storms and heavy surf. Perhaps it was a coincidence that it would often be uncovered on the anniversary, my birthday, when I would visit that beach. Or perhaps not.
