The Feeding Frenzy
Uploaded: April 10, 2012
Mother has returned to the nest with food for her three chicks. She will regurgitate the fish onto the nest, however the anxious chicks make it difficult for her as she lowers her head toward the nest the chicks will pull at her beak. The chicks are approaching 4 weeks old and will grow to 4 feet in height. Bringing home the food won't get any easier as the chicks grow taller.

Dick, this is a great shot of this frenzy. Good sharpness and detail. Bill #10085797Dick Jenkins April 11, 2012
Thank you all, Jack, Michelle and Bill. Some sad news regarding this family. When the chicks were two weeks old the male suddenly disappeared and has not returned. I've seen that happen many times, and I see a good many birds with fish line streaming out of their beaks which in short order leads to their demise. You know the GBH will be attracted to fishermen and bait buckets. So now this poor mother really has her hands full. She has been leaving the nest for an hour or two, hopefully to rest, hunt and eat. Normally a GBH has a life expectancy of 15 years. #10085803Zita A. Strother April 11, 2012
