This is beautiful! Love the bright colors and lights.....Can you tell me how to do that with the lights? I have tried many times!! Thanks!! :) #9958864Usman M. Bajwa February 01, 2012
Thanks for your kind comments everyone.Shelly, the type of star-burst depends on the number of aperture blades of the lens. Here the Tokina lens I used has 9 blades, thus making an 18 pointed-star. All you need for making a star light is (shooting from late afternoon and all through the night) a tripod, a stopped-down (anywhere from f/11 to f/22 should work) and a longer exposure. As you can see, I have included my camera settings on the picture itself.
Hope this helps.

Great starlight exposure Usman #9967944Chris Budny February 06, 2012
I never seem to get such pronounced starburst effects, on any of my lenses. I thought for sure I'd read this was a star filter on your lens! Very cool! #9968027Usman M. Bajwa February 06, 2012
Thanks Karen, Shelly, Doc, Joy, Julianne, and Chris. No star filters here, Chris, just a few brightly lit lights and long exposure did it for me.

Gorgeous colors and textures! and the lights are amazing. Thank you for taking time to share your technique. I did know the stars could be achieved in this manner. #9968096Terry A. Stoa March 19, 2012
Great image, Usman - for all the reasons stated above. I love the starbursts, too. #10045536Sign up for an interactive online photography course to get critiques on your photos.
