Sinch's Great Egret

This Great Egret is one of a pair of egrets who return to Port Richey, Florida, each spring to mate and produce more offspring. The plumage is unique as is the turquoise coloring around the beak at mating season. I am naming this image Sinch's Great Egret for my friend and mentor "Sinch" Ofiara, a retired newspaper photographer and college photography teacher.

Thank you Tarun. If it not were for the Canon f/2.8L, 300mm prime lens I don't believe I would have gotten the results I did. It is an outstanding lens that really shows its stuff where fast action or low light come into play. It was several years ago that I called Canon and spoke with their tech people. I asked the question, "What lens would you own if you were to shoot action sports, birds in flight and air shows?" Well, she said, if you can handle the weight of the lens the f/2.8L, 300mm prime is my choice. It will beat you up at an air show when you are tracking streaking jets across the sky, since the combined weight of the camera/lens is about 8 pounds. To me in the US that equates to aiming a gallon of milk at a moving object for 6 hours or so. BUT Tarun, if I had to give up all my camera equipment except 1, item I'd keep this lens. #9826886Dale Hardin November 23, 2011
