Description

A photo of my then 4-year-old, taken last summer. I revisited it this year to try and figure out some overlay techniques in photoshop that I've seen used. I'm quite happy with the results, and think that soon I'm going to be digging through my archives to find more photos to try this on!

Hi everybody - thanks so much for your kind comments! In response to Margo's query on the technique: Here's the "short" version: I layered in an actual photo of venetian plaster in "hard light" mode to create the effect.

The long answer involves about 20 layers, including color layers, blurred background layers, "high-pass" and "diffuse glow" filters, adjustment of levels, correcting flaws with the clone and healing tools and borrowing parts from another photo (Check out the "before and after" link.)

Add in careful blending of all the layers, plus relentless and obsessive tweaking for the best results, and I KNOW I won't stop there. This will probably be tweaked again before I finally get it printed for Grandma, who is waiting patiently for her copy! :)

Thanks again! -Kelly #1883999
