Crane Down (WNC Photo)

Uploaded: September 07, 2011

Description

A photo borrowed from the cathedral's website (by Craig Stapert), showing the length of the collapsed crane which fell just before 11am 8/23. No serious injuries reported; but a few cars were crushed, a good bit of the Herb Cottage roof and wall was torn off, the masonry wall and Norman archway to the Bishop's Garden (as well as 2 old trees and several other planting just inside) were hit hard. The enormous steel beams piled up to the right of the crane, are to be lifted to the top of the bell tower to support scaffolding there; apparently the crane had just finished delivering one load, and was coming down for another, when it toppled.
