The Coronado bridge links San Diego with Coronado, California. The 11,179-foot-long (3,407m) bridge ascends from Coronado at a 4.67 percent grade before curving 90 degrees toward San Diego. The span reaches a maximum height of 200 feet (61m), allowing even the tallest U.S. Navy ships, which operate out of the nearby Naval Station, to pass underneath it. The five-lane bridge features the longest box girder in the world.

I have no idea what a box girder is, but this is gorgeous, Rona. And Coronado is also the main training area for Navy Seals, right? #1395774Monnie Ryan July 25, 2011

Thanks everyone! Yes, it is quite a bridge - too bad I was unable to capture all of it, but when you're on a boat you take what you can get! And yes, Michelle, the Navy Seals do a lot of training here - we saw them practicing maneuvers - very fascinating! #9554677Ellen Hodges July 25, 2011
