Long Beach, New York is a narrow strip of land in Nassau County, New York, bounded by the Atlantic Ocean to the South and Reynolds Channel, to the North, East, and West. Up until 1880, Long Beach had basically been a beautiful white sand bar until an entrepreneurial State Senator (William Reynolds) and real estate developer with a "vision" turned it into a resort for the "Rich and Famous" by dredging the bay and filling in the marshes.
My stepchildren grew up in Long Beach, and the eldest two middle-aged boys have chosen to raise their own families there.
This was Reynolds Channel at sunset. The homes that line the bay in this spot have private docks. It is a short walk to the ocean and the three-mile boardwalk.
