Description

This couple is about to bathe in the sacred Ganges at Varanasi, one of the oldest continually inhabited city's on earth. By washing away their sins in Mother Ganga, they hope to move one step closer to moksha, the end to the cycle of death and rebirth. Watercolor filter.

Great Capture and treatment not something I've noticed before.. Great Info on the river and it's religious importance to the locals.
Not to make light of any beliefs but bathing in it could well help speed them on their journey. It is one of the most polluted rivers in the entire WORLD ...

Happy Shooting

Thank you all for your nice comments. You are so right, Jack. There were even bloated bodies floating not far away, yet somehow it all is all quite magical and people bathe in the millions. Not this cowboy however! :)

An another wonderful capture Steve!

I was watching 'The Amazing Race' 2 weeks ago when they were in Varanasi. The contestants had to take a boat across the Ganges and one of the anxious girls jumped off and fell in the river. Her team mate was having a fit.
It really did look magical there though, the bright colours, architecture, history and people. One of the places on earth I'd like to visit and photograph. #9362943

Thanks a lot, Mary and Patti! The entire country is filled with wondrous sights and experiences. And only the gods can imagine what is in the water! I can not count the number of people in my groups that I nursed through Delhi Belly. :)

Superbly seen and captured, Steve. I ca see your subjects perfectly relaxed, not intimidated by the camera at all. It's a rare gift for a photographer to have. Great treatment too. #9364441

Thank you, Joanna. I think being sneaky and a 135 mm lens are my reasons for their relaxation. :)
