Longneck Beauty

Uploaded: December 27, 2010

Description

We trekked for miles, waded a river three times and followed it through a mountain to reach this Longneck Karen tribe that had set up a camp in the jungle of Thailand. They had recently fled the brutal oppression of the military regime in Burma.

Great Capture
I was under the impression that this had been outlawed ???

Happy Shooting

Unbelievable capture, Steve. As a woman, the first thing I do when I get home is remove earrings, rings, and necklaces. What if I had to leave them on? And what if there were 50 of them?
I cringe in sorrow. #9128411

Thank you, Jack and Michelle. This was shot in the early '90's and I doubt it is banned. Beauty will have its way!
I believe they leave the neck rings on all the time because their muscles could not support their heads without them. #9129011

Wonderful exotic image! Lucky you to have experienced and photographed these people. #9129444

Thank you, Carol. This was quite an adventure. They had only recently settled into huts on the edge of an established but very remote village. It was true jungle and a mere ten miles from the troubled Burma border. Mortar skirmishes were not uncommon and a 25 ft python was caught in the school yard the week before we arrived.
It was sad to see such gentle people so brutalized and forced from their homeland.
