Lofoten Fishing Huts

Uploaded: December 02, 2010

Description

Norway's Lofoten Islands have a thriving cod fishing industry in the remote North Atlantic above the Arctic Circle. This image was taken in late May when the sun never sets.
I am reworking some older images for sale on Fine Art America and revisited this favorite from my film days.

Beautiful colors and scene. Do the building colors have a meaning like the ones in Greenland? I don't remember all the colors but the hospitals were yellow for easy identification #9076828

Thanks, Carol. There was no meaning to the colors that I know of. There were many huts to accommodate the fisherman during the cod season and they all were the same color. I have found that people in many rugged northern places often have brightly color structures. Perhaps it is their way of combating the long dark winters. It is total darkness here for over two months.

Btw, they were inexpensive to rent in the off-season. The group I led stayed in them and they were great. Don't swim! Not only is the North Atlantic cold, but the toilets have a direct flow into the sea. :)

Thank you, Michelle and Patti. I am pleased with what two hours of clean up and improved editing skills can do. :)
