I Should Not Be Alive

I brought this young lady in from the wild on Sept 13. She laid her egg sac on Sept 22 and took up her dedicated mission of guarding it. Once that happens they no longer hunt for food but will attack and eat anything that approaches the nest. I thought surely she had consumed her last meal on Sept 27 when I found her snacking on a honey bee. Several hundred instars burst forth on Oct 22.
From that point, the female "normally" continues to guard the young for "about 10 days" then crawls off and dies leaving them on their own. On Nov 2, I noticed that the last of the instars had "ballooned" off into the wild blue yonder but she remained in place near the egg sac. Today I found her snacking on another honey bee that had come too close to her space. She has no clue that she should have died on or about Nov 1st. She has defied every "Green Lynx Spider Law" in the books and remains in place on the egg sac as of this writing (Nov 21)!! She is one helluva lady!!

I think you should report it in the annals of Green Lynxes! I think she likes her Heaven in the Cove and doesn't want to leave it.

Awesome photography! #9056981

I just now checked on her at 7:40, she expired during the night and is hanging upside down by several strands of silk swinging gently in the breeze. #9057000

Awesome Jim absolutely awesome. I am glad someone likes messing with these creepies or we wouldn't know a thing about them. I know they are a part of balancing nature, but I can do without them. #9057044
