Boat Dock

Description

We took a water taxi to Lake Bled Island; this is the landing dock. There is quite an interesting story about these boats, called "pletnas". When the church was first built on the island, people would come from all over to attend services at the church creating quite a bit of chaos with boat traffic. The Lord of the Land decreed that only twelve families would have the right to operate water taxis, and to this day, only descendants of the original twelve familes can operate these taxis. Another interesting note: when couples marry at the church, the groom must carry his bride up these stairs...without stopping!

The oarsmen running the pletnas must stand while rowing...another order of the Lord of the Land! #1329363

I'm in love. I want to live there. Where are we again, Ann? A dream???

I love the charming rules and traditions this place carries and keeps. Wonderful. Like a fairly tale.

(Guess the women have to really watch their weight until after they get married! HA! That poor GROOM otherwise!)

Most interesting information along with a fantastic capture Ann. The only Lord of the land I have is Oscar, he orders me to let him lay on my lap when siting. #9056706

Anie- The first thing that I noticed was all them stairs, and now you say that I have to carry my bride all the way them without stopping, judges, are we allowed to throw the our bride over our shoulders, can she carry the groom up the stairs instead?
Love the composition and the beautifl colors and textures of the building. Love the arches and the boats ready to carry people where they want to go. That story was inciting to read and so emjoyable. Gorgeous work my dear friend.
Have yourself a most wonderful day. #9056892

First thing I noticed about this beautiful capture were the lovely stairs, thinking they might be tough walking all the way to the top. Then after reading your wonderful info , find out that the poor grooms have to carry their brides all the way to the top! The marriage rate must be very low LOL..
Gorgeous capture and great info Ann!! #9057666
