At Valley Forge National Historic Park, King of Prussia, Pennsylvania

Though we have lived less than an hour from Valley Forge for 22 years, and have passed by its entrance SO MANY times, yesterday was the first time that I entered through the park's gates and walked the six-mile trail around the encampment.

As I stood gazing at the arch, a breeze that I could not feel agitated the stately oak to the left, and its leaves began to fill the air.

The inscription on this side of the arch reads: TO THE OFFICERS AND PRIVATE SOLDIERS OF THE CONTINENTAL ARMY DECEMBER 19, 1777 JUNE 19, 1778
