"Open and Shut"
Uploaded: August 03, 2005
When I first walked in the conservatory I saw these beautiful torquoise blue butterflies flying around, but when I tried to find one that was sitting still I couldn't. Then I realized what they looked like shut-nothing like when they are open! I got a lucky capture here with wings spread open and wings shut! Inside, no flash, f6.3, 1/250sec, 170mm telephoto lens

Wonderful capture, Nicole, these little critters are had to shoot, they just flit around so much! Nicely done! #288388Lisa D. Greer August 03, 2005

Pretty Nicole :) #1672575Jason August 03, 2005
Very nice Nicole. Those are the blue morphos. They are a simple brown when shut and unfold to that beautiful blue. They are very difficult to get a shot of while opened. #1672696Jessica L. Richard August 03, 2005

thank you Deb, Lisa, Joy, Shelly, Jason, Jessica, Judy, Jenny, Sandy and Tammy!! Jason--you are right they were very hard to find open, but I made it my mission! :) of course there were quite a few of those in a small space so the odds were with me! :) I really appreciate all of your wonderful comments, again, thank you so much! #1673982Brenda M. Very nice NIkki! I love that you captured both of them in the same shot. Very well done! #1674087Kay E. Mahoney August 03, 2005
WOW!!!!!!!!!! Fantastic capture Nicole. What a wonderful capture of the two together. It is amazing how different they are with their wings open. It took me two different times at two hours each to get some shots of a blue one. They are way way to fast. I can't wait to go to another butterfly place to get some more photos. I hope I'll get lucky and get some more of the blue ones. I have some in my gallery. I love your photos. #1674088Laurence Saliba August 04, 2005
