There is one important matter to remember, though.
In many of the countries where the Buddha is venerated, it is considered sacrilegious, an insult to him and his followers, to walk or sit on the statues.
While I was in Thailand,a couple of young men (US tourists) decided to photograph each other on one Buddha statue. They had to be rescued by the Thai police from the angry Thais that witnessed it.
In Thailand as in other areas of the far east, different parts of the body are more or less honorable than others. The rear end and the bottom of the feet are among the least honorable and placing either of them on the statue is the worst insult.
As visitors we need to be sensitive to the cultures we are visiting. #8953562
