I love the side lighting, which gives depth and creates texture. But, I also love the positioning and the DOF of the sunflower, the composition is terrific as is the range of sharpness.

Did you use a Lite Disc to modify and diffuse the sunlight as it hit the flower in the late afternoon? It appears to have that softness.
