Description

I have re-worked this from an image that I posted a few years back, when we rode the Durango Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad train roundtrip from Durango to Silverton….and back. This was the second time we took this incredible adventure. It is an amazing ride...should you ever have the chance to do this...DO! You will be amazed! There will be another image of the train and some train information in the discussion area....
#18 in my Colorado series....

HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY!!!!!

This is another view of the train, the first view is a classic shot that I've seen many times before making its way to Silverton. This shot is on the way back to Durango....Here is a link to some interesting train/railroad information...Enjoy!!!

Thanks so much Jack, Monnie and Lorna!
This is one fabulous ride!! If you choose to take the round trip tour, plan on it taking a whole day....the ride from Durango to Silverton is about 4 hours long....arriving in Silverton around noonish or 1:00....have some time in Silverton to browse around or have a bit of lunch...then hop back on the train for your ride back to Durango. Along the way, the train makes a few stops for refills on water, which is always fun to watch if you in a train car that can view it. You also have the option of just a one way trip to Silverton, taking the bus back to Durango. You can also catch the train in Silverton. It REALLY is worth the ride!!! Along the way, the announcer will let you know the location of the rocks in which Robert Redford and Paul Newman jumped from in the movie, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

Thanks Again!!!

Enjoy The Day!!

Love that first image. I didn't get to ride the train when I was there but I did get to see it leave town. My time was limited so I chose to go to Mesa Verde. Just one more place I need to go back to someday. Good job on the images. #8846250

Jeana - Thanks for commenting on my POTD because it brought me to this image!! Just today I was looking online trying to find something to do in late September when the foliage is best here. So were you in another train while this one was passing by on the other side or did you take this from a road? Where did you stay overnight?

This is such a beautiful image. I wanna go NOW! #8851442

Jeana Clark August 20, 2010

Thank you all so much!!!
I love this train ride...obviously as I've taken the roundtrip ride twice...It's an awesome way to experience the San Juan mountains!!!

Debbie...
This shot was taken from inside the train...we were within an open car..meaning it had a roof but no enclosed sides. Best way to go I might add! There is only one train towards Silverton.....while another leaves to go back to Durango as soon as it's clear. Basically one track, so they take turns coming and going. Just enough of a curve, from the railcar I was on to get this shot...I would love to do this in the fall, when the aspens are golden and the air is crisp. BUT...being a farm wife from Kansas...our fall harvest takes place during the primo time to be in Colorado. Here are a couple links for fall trips...wish I could go!!!! Lodging is great in Durango...some within walking distance of the depot...
(the second link is a fall photographers special..Sept. 25th & 26th and Oct. 2nd & 3rd..)
