Scimitar-horned Oryx

Uploaded: July 02, 2010

Description

These were photographed in the wild at Indian Head Ranch in Val Verde County. These desert antelope are mostly white with reddish brown necks and marks on the face with a long tufted tail. They have curved horns that can grow to be several feet long. They are on the World Conservation Union's Red list of Threatened species and are extinct in the wild and reside only in zoos. Several West Texas Ranches keep them as Exotics as at Indian Head Ranch.
