Going Green (Mexican Palo Verde)
Uploaded: April 29, 2010
I see this tree daily on my walk with Brandy. It is a Mexicaan Palo Verde (Parkinsonia aculeata) also known as Ratama and Lluvia de Oro (Spanish for "golden rain". It is native to Mexico and the border. It is a multitrunked, deciduous, large shrub or tree that grows about 15 feet tall. It has green smooth bark and is easily recognized by its branches with very long streamers. It also has a lot of spines on the trunk and branches. It looses its delicate leaves in the summer and blooms with a spectacular yellow flower and these long flowing branches and golden flowers resemble "Golden Rain". I will try to capture that when this tree blooms but you can see the elegant beauty and uniqueness of this tree. You can see the spiny thorns and very small delicate leaves as well as the green bark. Emile.
