monopod purchase

I shoot a lot with my Canon 30D and 100-400mm lens(heavy!) Sometimes it is not possible for me to use a tripod, so I am interested in getting a monopod. Does anyone out there have any favorites or recommendations? Thanks Kathleen

  Slik, Manfrotto, Giotto, Bogen.
Try to find that's at least as tall as you are, or taller in case you have to stand on something.

I shoot with the Sigma 50-500mm at 4 lbs and bought one in haste because of an airshow that was in town. I would suggest getting one with the "G" locks, I believe they are called, in lieu of one that has screw type leg locks. I stripped the threads on one section because of over tightening.

I love the carbon fibre one I bought and it is VERY sturdy and lite. definately get one that can go tall because you'll be able to use it while standing on something....thats what I hire an assistant for...
