Finding a Soft Focus Filter I cant find any soft focus filters for the Canon G1. Is there anything I can do or use to get that effect? Please help. Thanks. 1/11/2004 9:06:28 AM |

If the lens does not have filter screw threads on the front, you can use some nylon stocking as a "soft focus" filter. Use a rubber band to hold the material over the lens only, you don't want it to block the autofocus windows on the front of the camera.

Joy, There is a company called 'Lens Mate' that sells lens/filter mount adaptors for the Canon G series cameras. I own a G2 and have one of their adapters that I leave on my camera all the time. It takes a 49mm filter size, and is great because with a UV filter and cap it protects my camera lens. Soft focus filters are available from Hoya, Tiffen, and other makers. Hope this helps. Great answers! Also you can take double exposures: one fully sharp, one totally out of focus, if you camera has that capability. Another way, after the fact, is in your computer image editing program. Create a duplicate of your image and apply whatever blurring effect you have until it is totally out of focus, then layer it over the original, and reduce the opacity (make it transparent) by about 60 to 65 percent. This gives a lovely soft glow.
