Camera recommend, believe it or not I am a digital photographer somewhere inbetween "let's take a picture of the birthday cake" and, "Okay if I could have all the Victoria Secret models turn to their left". I'm looking for a new camera that offers around 4m pix and is portable. The features I'm most interested in but are not mandatory are: I've been looking at the Nikon Cool Pix cameras. Wondering if you have any thoughts about cameras to avoid or other cameras to check out. I'd like to keep my budget around $1000 give or take. I just bought a Canon G2 (the G3 is supposed to be out soon). It has the features you mention (plus a remote control for those self portraits with the Victoria's Secret models). I'm very impressed with it's quality and features. I paid around $600 for it.

My partner has just bought the Nikon Coolpix 5700. It has a fold out screen and is a 5Mp ccd. The picture quality is outstanding. It has a zoom lense of 28-280mm. Hope this helps
