Digital Equipment to use for team pictures

I have been asked by a local sports club to photograph team pictures next spring (65 teams). My work has been primarily editing the clubs parent's pictures taken at tournaments and creating photo montages through digital imaging in sizes up to 24" x 36". I am clearly an amateur photographer on my own and could use some guidance in approaching this request...the pitfalls of doing this type of photography and utilizing digital equipment to take and process these pictures. The club is willing to give me a letter of commitment for next season to assist me in obtaining monies for the equipment I would need to do this job. Am I crazy to even consider it?

Kate - I see this is an old post and I am new here... I couldn't find any answers to it. I am looking to start something similar with taking teams and other school sporting event photos in hopes of selling them. I am not a pro and am trying to learn all I can right now. I bought a Canon G2 not to long ago, I love them camera but had set out to buy a cool pix. The more I hear about the cool pix I keep wondering if I made a huge mistake. Anyway I was wondering if you took the mission. lol What camera your using? Are you printing yourself or sending them out? Anything you can tell me would be of great interest. Thanks!!
