Photography Question

How to Get Just One Color in a B/W photo?

I know in Adobe Photoshop you can add one spot of color in a black and white photo, but I don't know how to do it and I can't find anything in the totally unhelpful manual that came with it. Any hints? Thanks in advance!

  Hi Lee-Anne,
As usual, there are half a dozen ways to do that. Maybe the simplest method is this:

- Convert your picture to black and white (you can use the channel mixer or the black & white tool (CS3 or later))

- Use the history brush tool to recover the color of the object you want to show in color. Select a tool diameter and hardness that is suitable for the object

Hope this helps.
Rainer

As was stated, change your photo to B & W, you can also use the eraser tool to remove the B & W hue. If you would like I can email you something very helpful to tell you how to do it... Let me know!!!

Hi Lee-Anne, The method I use is to select only the spot that you wish to keep in color, then invert the selection and use the Saturation Slide to convert the rest of the picture to the degree of B&W you want.

I select the area I want to be in color, say the pedals of a rose. I then invert as Nancy mentions above, which changes the selection to everything except the rose pedals, then convert to B&W or grayscale as desired. The most difficult part is the initial selection, mostly due to the color variances caused by lighting and other factors.
