Photography Question

Displaying Contest Photos

Each time I enter a photo in the contest, I check the "display" button. Mostly that's because I want it to show up in the pages of recent entries, but I also am afraid that if I don't, the judges won't see them either. But for several months when I've looked at the Finalist winners, I see a number of photos I swear I've never seen before. Of course, with so many entries I'm bound to miss a few, but I'll ask the question anyway: Is it necessary to display photos you enter into the contest in order for them to be judged?

Monnie, the "display" button only means that the photo will or will not display in your gallery. As long as you enter it in the contest, it will show up in the recent entries!

Ah, I suspected as much when I spotted all those new-to-me finalists. Thanks so much for the info, Jessica!

If you want it to show up in the newly received contest shots, don't upload from your Member Center, but a new upload from scratch. Then once it's in the contest, if you want it to show up in your gallery, then go to your Member Center (Better Photos tab > Edit Your Photos link) and check display.
Many people enter from their galleries and they end up back in the contest pages since they are displayed in the contest by upload date not by contest-submission date ... but, in any case, the judges DO see them. I entered one that was already in my gallery last month, and it didn't have an EFP the last time, but got one last month, so they do see them.

Thanks, Carolyn -- I did learn that the after-the-fact entries don't show up in the recent entries the hard way early on and now always enter the contest with a new upload going in. I know other new members don't realize that either -- some have emailed me to ask about it. Hopefully some of the newer members will get the scoop here!

I have always entered my photos in the contest from images that I already have uploaded in my gallery. I have yet to recieve a contest finalist - but I have recieved many EPs on images I enter....so, I know that images are looked at no matter which way you enter one in the contest.

gretchen :o)

Gretchen, when you enter the contest with photos that are already in your gallery for a while, people won't see them since they are not posted in the fron pages if the recent entries where people can comment on them.

thanks Jessica! I guess I misunderstood the comment - I thought the the concern was about whether or not BP judges see entries if they are entered in contest from images already in your gallery.
thanks again!!!!!
