Copyright Symbol... How do I get the copyright symbol on my pictures? Thank you.

Assuming you can put any characters on your picture... it's easy after that. Obviously there isn't a copyright symbol on your keyboard, so make sure you have CAPS LOCK and NUM LOCK off. Hold down your Alt key and use the numeric keypad (not the 1-0 across the top of the keyboard), but the numbers on the right side of the keyboard. Then type 0169. The copyright symbol will pop up as the character you typed. Release the Alt-key and type as normal.

Mark, After the character pops up, you can highlight it and change the font size to a larger size. Of course, it's a little more involved to enlarge it with HTML code here, but that can be done too.

Ok, now for those of us with laptops...I don't have a numerical keypad on the right hand side, only the numbers along the top. Any suggestions?

Hi Jim, Look in your user manual for the laptop. Most laptops I've seen use a Fn key to put the keyboard into that keypad mode. On mine, J=1, K=2, L=3, U=4,I=5,O=6, etc. The numbers are hard to read, but they are there. Good Luck.

For The Laptop James If Your Running XP Go To Start Menu/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Character Map. Open The Map Up Look For The Copyright Symbol Then You Copy And Paste The Symbol Wherever You Want.

The copyright sign can also be done with (c) - your computer should automatically format it to a copyright sign. Just another idea.

Keep in mind if you cannot get the © symbol to show up after you have done the above you might have your fonts set to a type that doesnt have the copyright symbol. Set your fonts face to "arial" this has most of the special characters available for use. Example: I use Black Chancery font and cannot use the alt+0169 for the copyright. So in order to do the © symbol I just switch my fonts for the (©) or copy & paste. (Hope this helps a little)

Well, I've learned some cool tricks here. I've always just gone into Word and chosen "insert" then "symbol". I then pick the copyright symbol from the choices and it appears in my Word doc. I cut it from the Word doc and paste it as text onto my jpg in PSP. My way is the long way, but it works!

I use a laptop and it won't print the copyright symbol using any control combination. I use MS Word and then copy and then paste in the puctures.

I also use a laptop and you can use the number pad...they are on the keys and you just have to put number lock on with the function key. Then you can use the alt+0169...it does work. I'm glad I asked the questions..alot of you have great answers, thanks

There's a freeware program called CopyRight Left that puts a nice translucent copyright on your picture, and it's fully customizable (and again, free).... I use it sometimes when someone asks for one of my photos. The translucency is great because it really doesn't draw your eye away from the photo's content.

Melissa, Even if you don't have a photography business, the photos you take are your creative property. No one else has the right to take your photo and use it without your permission. Adding a copyright symbol and/or your name is one way to help prevent this. Chris
