Model Releases for Unrecognizable People I have a question concerning the need of a model release for submitting my images of people to stock agencies. Does a photographer still need a model release on an image of a person or persons (group) if the person is unrecognizable by the fact of being too far away or back to camera or face partially obscured?

I do not have experience in this area, but have been looking for information on releases. I found this link - http://www.danheller.com/model-release.html that had a lot to say on releases. I found it to be very informative and may be a good place to start D.

You only need a model release if the subject can be identified. Too far away or back turned, even a sharp enough profile, does not require a model release. Unless, of course, your purchaser demands one to cover their assets. Walrath Photographic Imaging

Hi Christopher, Good question! At BetterPhoto, three experienced instructor/photographers - all well published - have come up with excellent articles on the subject: Charlie Borland on "Photographic Model Release Forms for Stock Photography: Why You Need Them": Brenda Tharp on "Photographic Model Release Forms: When You Need Them, When You Don't": Jim Zuckerman on "Photographic Model Release Forms: Third World Perspective": Hope this helps!
