Photography Question

Karma Wilson

PSP or PSE?

Let me just start by saying that I love GIMP - the free editing software. But I can't get it to use some plugins I really want (buzz) ... so I'm going to spend some money on PS Elements or Paint Shop Pro.
PS Elements drives me nuts because the color representation is totally off! Is there a way to fix this? I just want it to look like it will look in every other program, but for some reason in Elements or any other PS program everything looks oversaturated and dark.
How bout JASC PSP? Anybody like that? Both use the effects I want to try ... am open to suggestions.

I've used PSP for years - and love it! No matter what else I try, I always come back. You should download a trial, and play around. The trial is fully functional for 60 days - plenty of time to decide. Hope this helps!

HI Karma! I have both of these programs and have to agree with you on the color rep in PSE 2. It's awful. Image quaity is off as well. BUT, I DO use it for things like easy sepia conversion, diffuse glow, and some of the special "effects" that PSP doesn't yet have. I use PSP 8.1 and LOVE it; and Ann'es right - the trial version is a great way to "test drive" it. They have just come out with a version 9 which I am waiting on to arrive in the mail, so maybe it will have even more features and hopefully make my elements program obsolete:-) Good luck. Let us know what you end up with. I know that PSP is a great alternative to PS. Has many of the same features, but not the hefty price tag:-)

I'm new to the world of digital software and I LOVE PSP!! I happened upon it by doing a search on the internet and it came up rated the best in the budget catagory. I got to day 30 of the free trial and bought it. I got the Photo Suite and got the Photo Album program also...of all the photo organizer programs, it's the best. One tip WHEN :0) you go to purchase: check amazon.com to compare the price...I was able to save an additional $30 beyond the rebate. But, Jasc has incentives too - right now you can buy Pro8 and get Pro9 free.

I have used the Paint Shop Pro Anniversary edition for a while now and it does everything I would ever need it to!

I really like PSP. It was recommended to me by a very experienced photographer and I have never been sorry. JASC also has free plug-ins occaisionally. I would recommend buying it "in the box" and not download however. Good luck.

Hi Karma, I have to agree with the others about PSP.I'm also waiting for my upgrade to PSP9.It's a little tricky in the beginning but it does a great job.

  Hi Karma,
I'm using Elements and haven't had any problems with how the pictures look. I think part of it has to do with your screen settings. I'm pretty sure I've seen another q&a thread on it here at BP... Take a look.
I've never tried PSP but I'm thoroughly enjoying Elements.
D.

  Hi, Karma,

I agree w/the other PSP users. I have 7.04, and love it. Because I don't use a lot of filters on photos, I don't miss the filters my Adobe software has. Ease of use is also a plus. I cut my teeth on creating graphics with the downloadable trial of PSP back in '96 and found the software so user friendly!

I started out with PS but switched to PSP. I have both but very seldom use PS. I feel PSP is much easier to use and I have not found it to limit the amount to filters I can load as compaired to PS.
