  Hi Cassandra,
Welcome to BetterPhoto's online school!

Here's a quick rundown on how to get access to Campus Square:

How to get to your course (Campus Square) via your Member Center:

Sign in at the upper right of this page: http://www.betterphoto.com/home.asp (Or, if already signed in, click on the "My Member Center" link.)

That puts you in your Member Center.

Next, click on the "My Courses" tab. Then, when the next page displays, click on the course title link under the "Your Campus Squares" header. You'll then be in Campus Square!

The first lesson - with assignment - goes out this Wednesday ... have fun!!

Thanks,
Kerry

  22 .  Classes
Hi All. I'm hoping you can help me. I'm just starting out and about to complete my first online photography course "Understanding Digital Photography". It is now time for me to register for a 2nd class. However, I am super confused as to which one. I've read the course outline for each class yet many of them seem to overlap (some even cover the same content) including level 2 and 3 courses. Here are the choice of classes that I need assistance with: 1) Fundamentals of Photography Made Easy, 2) Mastering the Digital Camera & Photography, 3) Understanding Digital Photography: Beyond the Basics (level 2), 4) Learning to Shoot Inspiring Images and 5) Pro Tips for Great Exposure. I have read and reread the course outlines but am STILL confused! Please advise. Thanks so much!!

  Hi Shannon,
Thanks for jumping in here - I responded to your other thread too :) Understanding Digital: Beyond the Basics might be a good followup. The 4-week Pro Tips for Great Exposure could be an excellent choice, too, if you wish to review the basics and then really get into exposure. I'm thinking that Fundamentals and Mastering might duplicate too many of the topics covered in the course you are completing now.

Hope this helps - feel free to follow-up!

  Hi Shannon,
Congratulations on your 1st course.
Isn't Kerry fantastic :)
What I did when I started taking classes here is I would take an Exposure/Technique/Creative shooting type class along with a Photoshop class. I would double up as I had the time to devote to 2 classes and my thought is that they go hand in hand.
I found taking a Photoshop class with another class kinda meshed together so along with my ability to use my camera & capture the images they way I want to, I am also getting better at editing the photos.
What many people dont realize about Ansel Adams is that he was a darkroom master. His philosophy was that its not really a photo until you see the print. He would shoot at f/94 and spend hours/days & even weeks to work that image in the darkroom. His work speaks for itself and I am still awe-inspired to see his art.
Learning photography is a wonderful journey Shannon so have fun and enjoy the ride as you will get better with each class and by practice each time you go out to shoot.
Thats my .02 and I sticking to it :)

Yes, a wonderful journey to Fun. But there are pit stops at Trial And Error, Frustration(if you find yourself there, do not spend a lot of money if you're not traveling with someone who's been there before. Not the best of neighborhoods. But don't hesitate to ask for directions out of there.)
There's also a stop in Is That All You Did/Why Didn't I Think Of That, which is kinda like Minneapolis/St. Paul. And then you get to the city of Fun.
The county records are held in Trial And Error, so periodically you do have to go back there.

  23 .  Lesson 5 ISO Assignment
This ISO assignment is an outdoor assignment and I have not turbecame in because for nearly an entire week straight it has been raining in humid Miami. (It's raining no.) Not drizzling or a light rain here or there just constant rain. It is just dreary, overcast and wet, even at night. If I take my camera outdoors the viewfinder and front of the lens fog up and remain fogged for quite a while. I have still taken pictures but they come out with a cloudy haze on it. What do I do? How can this be corrected? This assignment called for a blank sky or something similar. What are some
alternatives of shots that I can take since I can't get a clear sky? Please advise.

Going from cooler air conditioned inside to a warmer, humid outside will do that. Or even a cooler outside to a warmer, humid inside, like what has happened when I've taking pictures of swimming in a natatorium during the winter.
Give your camera time to warm up to the outside temperature. You can try using the vents in your car to blow some warm air on the camera.
Does the assignment say it has to be outdoors? You can experiment with iso anywhere.

  24 .  Uploading images
I had a hard time uploading photos yesterday and again this am. I noticed that I have two pics in the contest, how did they get there. Everytime I upload a picture, does the first one of the day automatically go in the contest. Thanks

10/9/2011 9:29:17 AM

  Hi Debbie,
Sorry to hear about the uploading issues. Some things that might help:

- If you are posting photos for your gallery (and not class), that's done in your Member Center. Just click on the "Better Photos" tab and then the "upload new photos" link at the left.

- If you are uploading to class, that's done in Campus Square. In your Member Center, click on the "My Courses" tab and then click on the link for your course (under the "Your Campus Squares" header). Next click on the Photos tab in Campus Square - you'll see the "upload new photos" link.

As for the contest, there is an option to submit to the contest, but you must note that - it's not an automatic thing.

Hope this is helpful!

  25 .  Class discount
I just signed up for another on-line class last week. I waited as long as I felt I could before the class filled. Then I got info on the $20 off any new classes. Would there be a way for me to get that discount? The class I registered for is Denise Moitke's class on travel photography.
Thanks,
Rebecca Meeks

Same thing happened to me last month. When I contacted BP, they said for accounting reasons they were not able to refund $20. However, they did suggest that I cancel the class and then re-enroll using the discount code. No problems!

  26 .  Assignment
Can I submit photos for critique for the first assignment. I joined the group yesterday.

7/12/2011 9:13:55 AM

Your assignment photos will be critiqued by your instructor and your fellow classmates. Any others to be critiqued will be only upon the instructors permission. Remember that aside from teaching classes many of the instructors have their own business to run also.

If you would like to have your photos critiqued by others post them in the critique section.

  28 .  Transferring images
Is it possible to transfer an image from a BetterPholio to a class portfolio?

3/22/2011 7:58:44 AM

  Hi Fred,
Good question, and I have the answer! See below.

Thanks for asking, Fred!

Kerry

You can enter existing images into the Campus Square by using the photo id numbers. To find the photo id #'s, sign in to your Member Center, click on the "Better Photos" tab, and then click on Edit Your Photos link. You'll see the photo ID# under the particular thumbnail pics.
Open up a separate browser window, sign onto your BetterPhoto membership again and then:

>GoTo My Courses tab and click on course title link to enter your Campus Square
> Photos tab
> Upload New Photos.

At the bottom of the first uploading page, click on Alternate Image Uploader.

On the image uploader page, enter the # of images you will be uploading to this lesson, and select the assignment number (or Portfolio).

Click on Continue.

Now, copy and paste the photo id#'s into the small field to the right of the file name field. You do not need to enter title, etc., as it is already attached to the image.

Now click on Submit Your Photo and this image will be copied from your gallery to whatever you had designated (Portfolio or assignment).
