I have "Pointy Nose" almost feeding from my hand. He comes within a foot of me. Sugar plum is more timid.

Thanks for commenting, Kitty!

  Thank you, Ann.

This is my favorite coon kit. She is charming and waits for our picture every evening. The others run up the feeder, grab peanuts, and quickly disappear.

I also wish I could hug her, she's such a "Sugar Plum." When I put the peanuts out in the early evening, I call the sugar plum kits and most come running...if they are in the backyard.

It's fun! Thank you for visiting my gallery and your comments. They mean so much to me!

Thank you, Sharon. The colors are vibrant because when the coon kits were very young, they came during daylight. Now, if they come (and they often don't), it is long after I've gone to bed. I haven't seen them for months.

I hope they bring their babies in the early fall, like their mother brought this litter. I miss them.

Thank you for your kind words, and visiting my gallery.

Thank you, Karen. I love this image also. I wish this coon family still visited me. But, as they grew older, their mother took them to discover new foods in trash containers, no doubt.

I had really enjoyed their visits last fall and continually look for new possibilities in my old images as I learn more and more techniques.

I also enjoy your visit to my gallery. That you so much for coming.

What an enjoyable series! I raised a baby coon long ago. This brings back great memories. I eventually released her on our ranch. At first she would occasionally visit if she got hungry and once even brought her babies to visit.

I miss the coon kits. I did not really raise them--just fed them peanuts as a photographed them. They've grown and have families of their own, I suppose, but I haven't seen them at the normal times and they don't come when I call, like they once did.

Thus, I moved on and started learning to capture birds. It's going to take awhile before I'm good at this, however.

Thank you for visiting my gallery and your comment on the coon kit series.

  Thank you, Doc and Donna.
The coons used to come during daylight hours when they were babies. Their evenings grew later and later as they matured. Now, I can hear what I think may be coons...or it may be rats, as we have both. The coons generally feed before the rats, and are long gone by the time the Norway rats come out.

We refuse to use poisons, because we don't want to kill pets, owls, hawks, or other birds and coons. So they rats clean up after everyone else. I just make certain that the feeders come in before 10 p.m. so the only thing on the ground is seed left from messy birds.

I thoroughly enjoyed capturing the coon kits. There are more images of Backyard Wildlife, along with one rat "Calculating" from the high wire above the feeders.

Thanks for visiting and for your comments.

Oh I love this. So well done. This brings back great childhood memories too. My Dad was a Game Warden and one day he brought home 3 baby racoons that had been abandoned by their mother. We raised them till they were old enough to be released back into the wild and then let them go. Their names were Stinky, Tiny and Gorbyguts.

Sugar Plum coon is all grown up now and I don't see her any longer. I miss the kits, as I had so much fun capturing them. The experience I gained from the kits, I transferred to the backyard birds.

The coons come in the wee hours of the morning now, when I cannot anticipate them. I can tell when they come because the water container left for the birds is upside down.

But I miss them. I really enjoyed their capture --photographically!
