Thank you Jessica. This is a really magical place. I'm about 100ft. below the desert floor in what is called a 'slot canyon'. (There are many of these in the Southwest) The walls are sandstone eroded by water flowing down the canyon. At a certain time of year the sun is able to shine straight down this narrow crack. Usually the light in these canyons is only bounce light and exposures on Velvia50 are about 6-8min.or longer. (A lot of the rich color you see is due to reciprocity failure of the film.) I planned my visit for the right time of year and the right time of day. I knew what was going to happen so I set up my camera and waited. The dust in the air was thrown up into the air by someone else. It looks nice, but is deadly for cameras. This image is a good example of that old addage "Chance favors the prepared mind".
