Bow Lake

BetterPhoto.com Editor's Pick
Bow Lake, Alberta-Canada
Bow Lake, Alberta-Canada
Location: Banff National Part, Alberta Canada. Bow Lake again from a different location and time. The emerald color of most glacial fed lakes is caused by very fine ground up rock called glacial flour. So small that it stays suspended in the water, turning the water emerald green.

Does that fine ground up rock have minerals in it?

Which raises the question: "What are rocks made of"!(

My brother said he thought he read that it has several things...including copper. (Which would also explain the turquoises and emeralds). Have you read this too Denny? -Laura Swan

Laura, Whatever trace minerals are in the rock will be suspended in the water and the lake color can be anything from white to green to blue.
