I found a spot on a concrete pier across the water from where the fireworks were being launched (it was in a bay). I set the camera on a tripod, aimed and focused (turned off auto-focus) it at the area where most of the fireworks seemed to be going - set the ISO to 100 and using manual mode set the aperture to f/27 and exposure to 20 seconds. I sat down on the pier and using a cable release opened the shutter whenever it looked like a number of rockets were being launched in the direction that I was interested. I left the aperture at f/27 (depth of field wasn't really important here I just wanted a long exposure) and adjusted the shutter speed based on what I saw on the LCD. I took 117 photos - most were misses because my timing was off, the fireworks opened in the wrong place (too high, to far left or right) or were too white hot or too dark. This was my favorite..

Thanks John. I should go to your place next July. :-) I'm a hands-on type of person.

Hey this is my favorite too!
