First time I've seen this--it's very powerful. The DOF on those never-ending bars strengthen both the story and the design. Wonderful detail and clarity on the paw.

Yes, I saw this under Editor's Picks too. A very emotional image John and I am so glad the dog found a good home. Being that my first career was a vet assistant, I really feel for the animals that are unwanted and unloved. Pet overpopulation is such a real problem that even if you emptied out all the shelters for a day, they would be full again in about a week or less. There are too many pets and not enough homes. Both my cats are spayed.

Thanks for your message, Carol. I agree that overpopulation is a terrible problem. Fortunately, stride have been made in the past 10 years or so (at least here in Chicago), and overall shelter intake and euthanasia numbers have decreased while adoptions and spay/neuters have increased. Thanks again for looking!

I really love that you made the paw so small in the photo. It emphasizes the isolation of this pup. You know, when I looked at the thumbnail, the shape of the paw looks like a small animal with its nose sticking out.

I have to go on record as being with those who think you have a winner here, John. Every time I see this photo--which was fairly frequently when it was in Editor's Picks and is now every time I open this discussion thread to read the new posts :) --I like it more. It's like a really good book that just keeps speaking to you. I really hope the judges experienced this as they worked their way from semi-semi-finalists to finalists.

This is such a poignant image, John--your composition and DOF make it really outstanding. I can see the SPCA using this on the cover of their magazine. It's definitely a winner, in my book. And I'm so glad he was adopted!! :D

I loved this before - I love it in this new crop even more! The image is striking - it tells me a lot and makes me feel a lot. The lines are superb, the clarity, the DOF and the POV as well. I cross my fingers it will also get the appropriate recognition by the judges John!
