  Thanks Mariana,
I was on assignment for Sunset magazine when I captured this image one morning in Woodland, CA, and knew if I added a polarizer, it would cut the haze a bit in the sky and deepen its color. The rest of the shot was there right in front of me just requiring a nice wide-angle lens and composition. No extra color or filters added. These homes are really amazing in general. Thanks again for your compliments!

Beautiful image! Did you have to get a property release for it? I never know what's OK to photograph and what's not!

  Thanks Donna! much appreciated.

Colleen, regarding your question, I did not have to obtain a model release due to the fact that I was on public property (not on their grounds) and the image was used in an editorial fashion (i.e. magazine).

If you sell any images for any sort of advertising use (ads, corporate use, promotional use, etc) then you must obtain a release.

And in general, just to be kind and respectful, it's always good to inform the owners of what you are doing- my rule is if they do not want me to take images of their place (or if you are photographing people), I won't. Usually people are very kind and easy going about it, but on occasion, you'll get a few that prefer their privacy.

thanks for the question!
