BetterPhoto.com Photo Contest Finalist   Brighton
Brighton
Taken in Brighton UK 2002.
I have applied a gradient layer blended as an overlay at 34%. Also added an omni lighting effect near the rays of sun to highlight them more.
I hope this works.
Not displaying as sharply as I would like.

Great idea to add the gradient layer Paul! Certainly a lot easier than carrying around and fiddling with the graduated ND filters while shooting which I find particularly hard when I am for ever taking on and off my glasses to see what I am doing. This works real well. And a beautiful shot to. Those rays are shining down on the end of the pier perfectly.
I have a lot of trouble uploading to BP not only with sharpness but also contrast. And it is not consistent either. I wish there was an answer to the problem.

A STUNNER, Paul! I love the colors and the layering! There are those who say manipulated light is "artificial." But I find with my camera, which is no "great shakes," that layering will often bring out the image I actually SAW - not the one the camera got. I also feel strongly that with the advent of digital, the softwear is an extension of the lens. In either case, this is SUPERB!! As for the colors and the resolution on the site, I find it varies wildly depending on which monitor I use. I am on my husband's at the moment. Here, the photos DAZZLE! On my laptop, sometimes they are drab and foggy. I mean of course, the SAME photos! Some are almost the same while with others, the difference is phenomenal! Makes me wonder if we all see anything alike!

FABULOUS image, Paul...and a M-O-S-T deserving Finalist!! I just LOVE this scene - AND *everything* you've done to it has really enhanced it, I'm sure!! The gradient layer that you added really provides a 'moody' feel, and the omni lighting effect looks very natural!! CONGRATULATIONS, my friend!! :o)

By the way, thanks for mentioning that lighting effect, Paul! I Googled about it, and found this page:

http://www.cellbio.duke.edu/faculty/klingensmith/Adobe%20Photoshop%207/Help/help.html

It's specifically talking about PS 7, but do you think it still explains to people the method of achieving lighting effects when they are using basically any version of PS? Anyway, I had a very small 'fiddle' with the 'lighting effects' in CS, on one of my images, and my interest is now peaked to try them out some more very soon! Thanks, Paul! ;o)
