Icelandic horses
The Icelandic horse is intelligent, good tempered, versatile and beautiful. It can be found in over 40 different colors, with about 100 variations. Today, there are around 80,000 horses in Iceland, no small number for a country with 270,000 inhabitants! Thousands of people ride in cities and towns as well as in the countryside. The only practical role of the horse today is during the annual roundups when farmers use horses to round up sheep in the highlands. Most horses in Iceland today are used for leisure and competition. The Icelandic horse is certainly unique. What else can be said of a horse, bred exclusively and naturally in a country known for its pure air and magnificent landscape. The horse is a favorite among Icelanders and also one of the country's main attractions for visitors.

Beautiful horses, Jarijana! Thank-you for giving us the history of them! I grew up on a farm loving our horses and my Dad rode his horse in the Sheriff Posse for years. They bring such wonderful memories!!! Lovely photo!
