My goodness I don't know how I missed this, but a very belated Congratulations, Charlene! In Hawai'i it is called Liliko'i (lily-ko-ee) and the fruit comes in a yellow as well as a purple shell with black seeds. It is used in juices, pies, desserts, etc. and is said to be named after Liliko'i, Maui, where it was first grown. Passion fruit is also known as purple water lemon or purple granadilla! As kids we would just break open the pod and drink the fruit, seeds and all! Aloha, Stan
